This design efficiently harvests both raw kelp and automatically processes it into dried kelp. You can choose to collect either form based on your needs.

To operate, the farm requires a fuel source for its furnaces and bonemeal to stimulate kelp growth. The input chests are clearly marked for easy item placement.

While this design may seem complex, it reflects a personal preference for robust engineering. As of 2025, the core functionality remains intact; consider using smokers instead of furnaces and removing the front wall near water sources to prevent kelp from getting stuck.

Before You Build

This build uses 1,466 blocks across 32 block types – about 23 stacks in total, which fits inside a single shulker box. It occupies 17×19 blocks of ground and stands 15 blocks tall.

What to bring first

Gray Concrete – 646 10 stacks + 6
Hopper – 171 2 stacks + 43
Water – 126 1 stack + 62
Powered Rail – 91 1 stack + 27
Redstone Wire – 76 1 stack + 12

Survival or creative?

Every block in this build can be obtained in survival, so it can be built by hand without creative mode or commands. You will need Silk Touch for Glass, Packed Ice.

Moving parts

It includes Comparator, Detector Rail, Dispenser, Dropper, Hopper, Lever, Observer, Piston, so check the mechanism still works after pasting – redstone state and item-container contents do not always survive a paste.
