This build is a detailed recreation of the SS American Star shipwreck as it appeared in 2004. The original ocean liner met its fate in 1994 off the coast of Fuerteventura, becoming a well-known modern shipwreck.
In 2004, the ship was in a state of disrepair, with much of its former glory lost to looters. The recreation captures this specific period of decay.
The SS American Star was en route to become a luxury hotel-ship when a severe storm in the Atlantic caused its tow lines to break. After a failed attempt to reattach them, the crew was evacuated, leaving the ship to drift and eventually run aground bow first. The storm caused the ship to break in half, and over the years, it continued to deteriorate, with the bow eventually collapsing in 2005.
