This is a meticulously recreated model of the German train ferry ‘Preussen’, which entered service in 1909. The build features a detailed full interior and is capable of carrying a locomotive along with several passenger cars.
Originally serving the route between Sassnitz, Germany, and Trelleborg, Sweden, the ‘Preussen’ played a role in both World Wars. During WWI, it was repurposed as a ‘Hilfsminenleger,’ capable of transporting up to 4,000 sea mines. It continued its ferry duties until September 26, 1944, during WWII.
Following WWII, the ferry was transferred to the Soviet Union as part of war reparations, where it was renamed ‘Kriljon.’ Later, from 1975 to 1985, under the name ‘Morskaja I,’ it served as a barracks ship during the construction of the ‘Wostotschny’ harbor. Its ultimate fate after 1985 is unknown, but it was likely scrapped.
