Palasiks are believed to be a manifestation of high-level black magic witches in some areas of Sumatra, Indonesia. Palasiks are known as blood-sucking creatures. The Palasiks eat infants while they are still in their mother’s womb or newborn babies. They are often seen digging in a dead baby’s grave.

Genderuwo

In Indonesian culture, the Genderuwo is depicted as mythical creatures that take the form of a dark, primate-like figure covered in black fur with a supernaturally large stature. Its face is often described as having bestial features, with piercingly dark blood-red eyes and sharp teeth lining its jaws. According to local folklore, Genderuwo is said to spawn from humans who died due to suicide, unnatural death, or bodies that were given an improper burial.

Pocong

One of the most infamous ghosts in Indonesian and Malay mythology, a Pocong is said to be the soul of a deceased person who is doomed to wander the earth due to unfinished earthly business. It takes the form of a corpse fully wrapped in a burial shroud. Around its neck, arms, and legs are small cloths that are used as ties to bind the shroud to the body; a Pocong is essentially a ‘living’ corpse trapped in its own shroud.

Kuntilanak

In Indonesian mythology, the Kuntilanak (or another term: Pontianak) are said to be the spirits of women who died while pregnant. Stories about Kuntilanak first emerged from myths and folktales popular in Kalimantan (Borneo). It is one of the more famous pieces of folklore in Indonesia, which caused the existence of a city in Kalimantan to be named after these spirits.
