This is a highly effective cobblestone generator, tested and proven to be one of the best available. While it is a relatively large build, it reliably produces cobblestone.
Ensure the observer is positioned to face the direction from which the cobblestone will be pushed by the piston. A standard piston, not a sticky one, should be used for this mechanism.

Every block in this build can be obtained in survival, so it can be built by hand without creative mode or commands. You will need Silk Touch for Glass, Grass Block.
How to Place It:
Moving parts
It includes Hopper, Observer, Piston, Redstone Wire, so check the mechanism still works after pasting – redstone state and item-container contents do not always survive a paste.
