Hostility Level (Neutral)

A spider is a neutral mob. The term mob is short for mobile and is used to refer to all living, moving creatures in the game such as chickens, creepers, and spiders. Because a spider is a neutral mob, it will only attack you in Survival mode during the day if you attack the spider first. A spider will always attack you at night in Survival mode. It will never attack you in Creative mode.

Health Points

In Minecraft, a spider has 8 hearts  for health. This gives a spider 16 health points (because 1 heart = 2 health points). To kill a spider, you need to inflict 16 points of damage to the spider.

Where to Find Spiders

In Minecraft, you can find spiders in most Overworld biomes in light levels of 7 or less. Spiders will spawn in the dark, usually at night. Once a spider has spawned in the dark, it can survive in the daylight.

TIP: In rare cases, a spider can spawn with a skeleton on its back making it a spider jockey.

If you are having trouble finding a spider, you can summon a spider using a cheat or you can use a spawn egg.

Weapon

A spider does not carry a weapon.

Attack Method

In Minecraft, a spider will jump towards you and try to hit you when it attacks.

Drops

When you kill a spider in Minecraft, it will drop one of the following items: string or spider eye. The most common item for a spider to drop is string, but sometimes you will get a spider eye.

Make sure you pick up any dropped items before they disappear. They are useful and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.

Experience Points

As you play the game, you will gain experience. The most common way to gain experience is by killing mobs. When a mob is killed you will see tiny green and yellow balls appear and move towards you.

These orbs represent experience points. When you kill a spider, you will gain 5 experience points.
