This intricate redstone contraption functions as a 7 segment display, capable of showing numbers by selectively illuminating seven individual segments. Each digit is uniquely formed by activating specific combinations of these segments. For instance, the number 1 is shown by lighting up just two segments on the right, while the number 8 illuminates all seven. The system begins by accepting four binary inputs, which can represent any number from 0 to 15, where each input line is either off (0) or on (1). These binary signals are then processed by a custom-built redstone decoder. This decoder interprets the binary code and directs power to the appropriate segments to construct the corresponding numeral. For example, a binary input of 0010 is recognized as the number 2, and the decoder ensures only the segments forming a ‘2’ are activated. Finally, the activated signals travel to the display unit. Each segment is wired to a distinct redstone line, and upon receiving power, it lights up, creating the visible number on the display.

Before You Build

This build uses 1,632 blocks across 15 block types – about 26 stacks in total, which fits inside a single shulker box. It occupies 41×40 blocks of ground and stands 17 blocks tall.

What to bring first

Redstone Wire – 637 9 stacks + 61
Purple Wool – 414 6 stacks + 30
Magenta Wool – 200 3 stacks + 8
Pink Wool – 99 1 stack + 35
Black Concrete – 80 1 stack + 16

Survival or creative?

Every block in this build can be obtained in survival, so it can be built by hand without creative mode or commands. You will need Silk Touch for Glass.

Moving parts

It includes Lever, Redstone Block, Redstone Lamp, Redstone Wire, Repeater, Sticky Piston, so check the mechanism still works after pasting – redstone state and item-container contents do not always survive a paste.
